چکیده

It is becoming increasingly clear that the robustness demonstrated by biological vision systems is in large part due to their ability to actively integrate (fuse) 1 information from a number of similar or diiering visual cues 34, 2]. In addition to active integration, the perception{action nature of biological systems relies upon the ability to eeectively compose behaviors in an event driven manner. Providing mechanical vision systems with capabilities similar to those possessed by biological systems therefore entails developing appropriate tools and techniques for eeective integration and behavior composition. In this paper, we address two issues. First, we present a uniied approach for handling both integration and process composition which combines a theoretical framework which provides a uniform description of teams of behaviors that are committed to achieving a speciic goal through common eeort and a well known process composition model. Our approach is implemented in a working system called the AV-shell which provides the ability to specify and implement tasks which make use of integration and process composition according to our approach. Secondly, we address the issue of integration in the active vision activity of smooth pursuit. We have experimented with the fusion of four techniques for implementing smooth pursuit such as template matching and image diierencing. We discuss each technique focusing on strengths and weaknesses, then show that fusing the techniques according to our formal framework improves tracking. 1 In this work, the terms active integration and fusion are used interchangably

Reliability Optimization for Complicated Systems with a Choice of Redundancy Strategies (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Redundancy allocation is one of the common techniques to increase the reliability of the bridge systems. Many studies on the general redundancy allocation problems assume that the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined and fixed. In general, active redundancy has received more attention in the past. However, in real world, a particular system design contains both active and col...

A New Nonlinear Multi-objective Redundancy Allocation Model with the Choice of Redundancy Strategy Solved by the Compromise Programming Approach

One of the primary concerns in any system design problem is to prepare a highly reliable system with minimum cost. One way to increase the reliability of systems is to use redundancy in different forms such as active or standby. In this paper, a new nonlinear multi- objective integer programming model with the choice of redundancy strategy and component type is developed where standby strategy ...

A redundancy allocation problem with the choice of redundancy strategies by a memetic algorithm

This paper proposes an efficient algorithm based on memetic algorithm (MA) for a redundancy allocation problem without component mixing (RAPCM) in a series-parallel system when the redundancy strategy can be chosen for individual subsystems. Majority of the solution methods for the general RAPCM assume that the type of a redundancy strategy for each subsystem is pre-determined and known a prior...

Redundancy allocation problem for k-out-of-n systems with a choice of redundancy strategies

To increase the reliability of a specific system, using redundant components is a common method which is called redundancy allocation problem (RAP). Some of the RAP studies have focused on k-out-of-n systems. However, all of these studies assumed predetermined active or standby strategies for each subsystem. In this paper, for the first time, we propose a k-out-of-<em...
